Digital Time Tracking:
the legally compliant time tracking software

Planerio Dienstplanung

Planerio’s digital time tracking is legally compliant time tracking software for all industries. Employees record their working time online at the computer, via smartphone app, at the terminal with RFID chip, or directly from the shift schedule. Every clock-in runs to a personal digital timesheet with actual, target, and break times. Planerio calculates premiums and shift allowances automatically and transfers them via more than 100 integrations to payroll. The requirements per ArbZG and ECJ are automatically fulfilled. Schedulers save up to 90% administrative effort.

Track working time anywhere:

Online at the Computer

Ideal for all office and home-office workers: record working hours and breaks simply at the PC.

Via Mobile App

Time tracking on the go, directly in the employee scheduling app.

At the Terminal

Clock in on-site with cards, RFID chips, QR codes, and more. Existing chips, e.g., from access control systems, can usually be adopted. Terminals are also available waterproof and in WLAN, PoE, LAN, and LTE versions; purchase or rental is possible.

Directly from the Shift Schedule

Times are automatically created from the assigned shift; only deviations from the target are recorded separately.

Live Attendance Overview
See at a glance who is currently clocked in – across sites.

Timestamp Subtypes
Record activities such as on-site work, home office, or travel time separately and compensate them differentially.

Shift Buffers
Define how many minutes before and after a shift clocking is permitted.

Is digital time tracking legally required in Germany?

Yes. The 2019 ECJ ruling and the 2022 BAG ruling require employers to record their employees’ working time systematically, reliably, and objectively. Handwritten timesheets generally do not suffice. The legal framework is set by the Arbeitszeitgesetz (ArbZG). Which methods meet the requirements is shown in the comparison of common time tracking systems at a glance.

With Planerio, you meet these requirements automatically: Every clock-in is documented in a traceable manner and accessible to employees at any time. Every entry is saved as a timestamp with date and time; subsequent corrections remain traceable via comment and approval. When standard working hours are exceeded, the system warns in real time. You do not need to do anything extra: legal compliance arises from normal use.

How the requirement is developing in detail and from when it applies to which companies can be found in the HR wiki on working time tracking and in the article “Obligation for Working Time Tracking 2026”.

The result:

Stress-Free Payroll Preparation with Up to 90% Time Savings

Every recorded hour becomes the verified basis for payroll preparation directly. Shift allowances, absences, and corrections
are automatically included.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions – Briefly Answered:

What is digital time tracking?

Digital time tracking records working hours electronically instead of on paper – at the computer, via app, at the terminal, or from the shift schedule. It documents actual, target, and break times in a tamper-proof manner and makes them accessible to employees and management at any time.

What types of time tracking does Planerio offer?

Planerio offers four methods: online at the computer, via smartphone app, at the terminal with RFID chip, card, or QR code, and synchronized with the shift schedule. All methods can be combined per time tracking profile.

Is time tracking legally required?

Yes. Following the 2019 ECJ ruling and the 2022 BAG ruling, working time tracking must be reliable, objective, and accessible to employees at any time. Few exceptions, such as agreed trust-based working hours, are possible.

What does digital time tracking cost?

The cost depends on the number of your employees and whether you wish to use hardware such as terminals and chips. Ask us for a quote tailored to your needs.

How does time tracking integrate into existing systems?

Planerio has more than 100 integrations to common payroll and HR systems. Recorded times, premiums, and shift allowances are transferred directly to payroll.
